A Picture-Perfect Surprise Proposal at Letchworth State Park | Sandro & Melissa

 

Some love stories are worth traveling for, and Sandro and Melissa’s surprise proposal at Letchworth State Park was definitely one of them! ❤️

Traveling all the way from Ontario, Canada, Sandro had one very important mission: to ask Melissa to spend forever with him, surrounded by one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Western New York. And let me tell you, between the unpredictable weather, the crowds, and all the emotions, this proposal was one for the books!

A Little Planning Goes a Long Way!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from photographing countless surprise proposals at Letchworth State Park, it’s that you can plan every little detail, but you still have to be prepared for the unexpected!

And on this particular day? Letchworth was PACKED!

Before every surprise proposal, I go over a game plan with my clients. Where to go, what to look for, how to position themselves, and most importantly, what to do if things don’t go exactly as expected.

Because let’s face it, when you’re about to ask the love of your life to marry you, the LAST thing you need is a crowd of people standing exactly where you planned to get down on one knee! 😂

Thankfully, Sandro was ready! We had discussed what to do if the park was busy, and when the moment arrived, he followed our plan beautifully.

And then came the moment we had all been waiting for…

SHE SAID YES!!! 💍

The emotions that followed were absolutely incredible. There is just something about witnessing two people in one of the happiest moments of their lives that never gets old. There were so many genuine emotions, happy tears, and beautiful reactions, and I felt so incredibly lucky to be there capturing it all!

When the Weather Forecast Says Rain… But Mother Nature Has Other Plans!

Now, let’s talk about the weather. Because this part of the story deserves its own little moment. 😂

Leading up to Sandro and Melissa’s proposal, the forecast was calling for a DOWNPOUR.

Not a little drizzle. Not a passing sprinkle. We’re talking about the kind of forecast that makes a photographer check the radar approximately 47 times a day!

Unfortunately, because Sandro and Melissa were traveling from Canada, this was the only date that worked for them.

So we made the decision to move forward, rain or shine!

And wouldn’t you know it? Sometimes the photography gods decide to throw us a little favor!

By the time their session arrived, the weather had cleared up enough for us to capture their beautiful proposal and enjoy an incredible engagement portrait session afterward!

We explored, laughed, celebrated, and captured some truly gorgeous moments together against the beautiful scenery of Letchworth State Park.

And just when we were getting toward the end of their session, the rain finally decided to make an appearance.

But did we stop?

Of course not!

Out came my trusty clear umbrella, and we finished their session with some adorable, romantic portraits in the light rain.

Honestly, sometimes those unexpected little moments end up being some of my favorites!

From Ontario, Canada to Forever at Letchworth State Park

One of the things I love most about being a surprise proposal photographer at Letchworth State Park is meeting couples who travel from near and far to experience its beauty.

Letchworth has become such a special destination for proposals, and it’s easy to understand why. Between the breathtaking waterfalls, dramatic scenery, and beautiful natural surroundings, it creates an unforgettable setting for one of life’s biggest questions.

But as beautiful as the scenery is, my favorite part will always be the people.

Watching Sandro’s carefully planned surprise turn into such an emotional, joy-filled moment for him and Melissa was truly an honor. And getting to spend time with them afterward, capturing their excitement as a newly engaged couple, made the entire experience even more special.
