A Christmas Surprise: Adrien and Julia’s Magical Proposal Engagement Portrait Session in LeRoy, NY

There’s something truly magical about capturing life’s biggest moments, and this one takes the cake! A couple of weeks ago, Adrien reached out to me with a heartfelt request: he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Julia, and needed help making it unforgettable. As an engagement photographer and surprise proposal photographer, I live for moments like these! After tossing around a few ideas, we landed on the perfect plan—one that would completely surprise Julia.

The idea? Make Julia think she was coming to a Christmas Mini session for Adrien’s mom! With the help of his parents (who even swept their footprints away after turning the lights on to keep up the illusion!), everything was set in motion. Adrien’s careful planning and attention to detail made this surprise one of the most unique and heartwarming proposals I’ve had the honor of capturing.

Setting the Scene

When Adrien and Julia arrived, we started with a few photos by a tree line I don’t typically use—just to ease into the session and keep the surprise under wraps. Little did Julia know, just a few steps away was a beautifully decorated setup among the trees, complete with Adrien’s Christmas lights, a cozy blanket, and a hidden champagne bottle waiting to celebrate their love.

The Big Moment

The highlight of the session came when I asked them to grab ornaments from under a Christmas box. They each hung a snowflake ornament on a nearby tree before Adrien handed Julia one final ornament. This ornament held a message she’ll never forget: “Julia, will you marry me?” The look of shock and joy on Julia’s face was priceless—one of the best reactions I’ve ever seen! It took a moment for her to realize this wasn’t just a photo session; it was her engagement session! ????

Adrien slipped the ring onto her finger as she processed the surprise, and the two of them couldn’t stop smiling. It was a beautiful, intimate moment, and I felt so lucky to be there to capture it.

Celebrating Their Love

To top it all off, Adrien’s parents had hidden a bottle of champagne in a tree nearby. We popped it open to celebrate and spent the rest of the session capturing sweet, candid moments between the newly engaged couple. Adrien and Julia’s love for each other radiated through every shot, making my job as a Rochester engagement photographer so easy.
